The Western Australian State Government has developed a vision to revitalise the eastern end of Subiaco following the closure of Princess Margaret Hospital and relocation of AFL matches and other major events from Subiaco Oval to the new Optus Stadium. The State Government’s land development agency, LandCorp, is responsible for leading the renewal of the Subiaco East area, located 3km from the Perth CBD and the demolition of Subiaco Oval.
The project is being completed within a tight timeframe with demolition activities to be completed prior to opening of the adjacent Inner City College in 2020, delivering on the Labor’s Government election promise. The project involves a number of significant challenges including relocation of existing high profile tenants (WAFC and West Coast Eagles), resolution management of heritage listings, removal of hazardous materials and completion of major demolition works within a built up residential / commercial area. The project scope will also involve the returfing of the Subiaco playing surface for community purposes as well as the possible retention of sections of the existing grandstands.
