NS Group supports Indigenous community education in the Northern Territory /
21 May 2020
NS Group is contributing to learning programs for Indigenous students in the Northern Territory through The Smith Family, a charity helping disadvantaged young Australians to reach their full potential through education.
The Smith Family’s work in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities aims to keep children, families and communities engaged in learning by providing positive educational experiences, opportunities to grow life skills and access to role models.
Money from NS Group’s donation will assist with funding The Smith Family’s initiatives for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students in the Northern Territory, such as their ‘Student2Student’ reading program or ‘Elders in Schools’ program.
As the Director responsible for NS Group’s Community and Reconciliation Action Plan corporate portfolios, Damian Fasher said, “The decision to support The Smith Family made sense when we were looking for a charity to align with our national presence.”
“The Smith Family and NS Group share similar values and the importance of education resonates with us – we also believe in the power of education as a key pathway to future success.”
“Our mission is to connect, empower and lead people to create great places,” Damian said.
“As a company, we embrace and encourage inclusivity and diversity within our workplace and wider communities, continually seeking to create opportunities for people from all backgrounds – including Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.
“NS Group has maintained a Reconciliation Australia-endorsed RAP since 2013 because we recognise the importance of the reconciliation movement in Australia and are committed to taking action at a corporate level.
“It’s because of this commitment to our RAP – plus our desire to support the local community of our Darwin office – that we decided to support programs for Indigenous students in the Northern Territory.”
He said, “As a community-minded organisation, we always seek opportunities to contribute whenever and wherever possible.”
“If we can help others to build brighter futures and stronger communities, then we’re 100% on board.”
In addition to this donation, we are also proud to be supporting The Smith Family through sponsoring a high school student in New South Wales.
NS Group also supports other educational initiatives, such as awarding prizes to top project management and construction management students at Curtin University in Western Australia.
It’s because of this commitment to our RAP – plus our desire to support the local community of our Darwin office – that we decided to support programs for Indigenous students in the Northern Territory.
